Avana is studio booking software where members book, cancel and check their credit in the Avana app or in the browser. Members want to sort out a class on their phone as easily as booking a table. At the same time, not everyone wants yet another app. That's why Avana works both ways: the same classes, the same credit and the same sign-in code, in the app and in the browser.
What members actually do in an app
Think about what members want to know from you all week: what time the class is, whether there's a spot, how many classes are left on their pack and when they can cancel until. Those are exactly the questions filling your messages now. In a good member app, the answer is always there.
In the Avana app it all sits in four tabs: Classes for what's booked, Book for your timetable, Credit for packs and memberships, and Me for their details and notifications. What a member does there shows up immediately on your timetable and on their card in your member management.
A custom-built app, or the Avana app?
Having your own app built costs a lot of money and upkeep, and every new version of iOS or Android means more work. Most studios don't need it. What members want is to book quickly and recognise your studio.
In the Avana app, members see your studio's name and logo at the top. If they belong to two studios, they switch with one tap, on one account. You use the same app for your own timetable and your members, and it's part of your plan with no separate app fee.
Booking in the browser, with nothing to download
Not every member likes installing an app, least of all for a single trial class. So everything works in the browser too. A member opens your studio page, picks a class and signs in with a code by email, with no password. If the email doesn't arrive, the code comes by text. A first-time guest can even book a drop-in without an account.
Anyone who comes more often can still install the app later and find the same credit there. How your timetable appears online is covered under the online class schedule.
Notifications that keep your classes full
The biggest advantage of an app is the notification on the screen. A reminder before class stands out far more than an email among the newsletters. When a waitlist spot opens, the member sees it at once and the spot is filled again in minutes. When a class is off, everyone knows before anyone makes a wasted trip.
Members choose which notifications they want, so the app never becomes a nuisance. How a free spot passes along by itself is explained under cancellations and the waitlist.
What to look for in a member app
Pick an app where members see their own credit, or the questions will keep coming. Look at how people sign in: the fewer passwords, the more members actually use it. Check that cancelling and the waitlist are built in, and that your cancellation window applies automatically.
Ask whether there are charges per member or per download, because those grow as you do. And think about privacy: each member should only see their own details, as UK GDPR expects. In Avana the app is included in every plan, with no cost per member, and each member only sees their own account.
By type of studio
In a reformer studio on Studio Max, members can swap to another reformer in the app until the cancellation window starts. At an outdoor bootcamp, everyone gets a notification when a session is called off. At a dance school on Studio Plus, a parent adds their children to their own account and signs each child up for a term group.
And at a gym or boxing gym on Studio Plus, members check in at the door with the QR code from the app. You see who is in each class without a clipboard on the desk.
What Avana does for you
You and your members use the same Avana app. You see who's coming today, what has come in and what's left on every pack. Members book, cancel, join the waitlist, buy a new pack and get notifications. The app works with your class packs, your memberships and the messages to your members. What Avana costs is in the pricing above.
