How it works

How a membership runs in Avana

You set it up one time.Every month after that it renews without anyone lifting a finger.

  1. Create the membership

Unlimited classes, or a fixed number per month. The price is yours to set.

  2. Members sign up online

A few taps on your studio page. The first month is paid the moment they join.

  3. It renews each month

Their card is charged every month, and they book their usual classes themselves.

Who it's for

For studios built on regulars

If most of your members come on the same day every week, a membership suits them better than buying pack after pack.

  • Plenty of your members come weeklyA membership makes their usual class a habit they don't have to think about.
  • You're tired of chasing paymentsCards are charged each month and the money lands in your account.
  • You want to plan your month properlyYou know in advance how many regulars you have and what they bring in.
Steady income

Know what's coming in before the month starts

Every membership renews on its own date, so on the first of the month you already have a fair idea of your income. That makes it far easier to decide on a new instructor or an extra evening class.

  • Paid into your own bank account
  • No commission taken from any membership
  • A monthly view of what came in

Regulars

Members who keep turning up

Someone on a membership comes more often and stays longer than someone buying the odd class. They book their regular slot weeks ahead and treat your studio as part of their routine.

  • Unlimited, or a set number of classes a month
  • A pause for a holiday or an injury
  • Members on a membership can join the waitlist too
Self-service

Members manage their own membership

In their account, members see their membership, the classes they've booked and when the next payment is due. If they want to stop, they cancel it there themselves, month by month.

  • Visible in their own account
  • Cancelled by the member, month by month
  • A failed payment shows on their member card
Unlimited or a set number

Offer the membership that suits each member

Unlimited works for the member who comes four times a week. Eight classes a month suits someone with a fixed rhythm. Put both next to your class packs and let members pick what fits their week.

  • Unlimited classes
  • Or anything from 1 to 100 classes a month
  • Alongside your class packs

When a payment fails

A declined card is followed up without you

If a monthly charge doesn't go through, the member is sent a fresh payment link by email. Until it's paid, they can't book new classes with that membership, so nobody quietly trains for free.

  • A new payment link sent to the member
  • Clearly marked on the member's card
  • Booking opens again once it's paid
The app

Your whole studio on your phone, and on your members' phones

Who's coming, what's come in and what's left on every pack: all on your phone, and on your members' phones.

The rules behind a membership

Set the membership up once. From then on the same rules apply every month, for you and for the member.

  • Unlimited, or a fixed number of classesA fixed number can be anything from one to a hundred classes a month.
  • Unused classes expire at month endThey don't roll over. A new batch arrives with each paid month.
  • Members cancel in their own accountThe month they've already paid for stays usable until it runs out.
  • A minimum term or notice period if you want oneThree, six or twelve months minimum, and an extra month's notice. Both are fixed at sign-up, so a later change never affects a running membership.
  • Charged to the member's cardCard, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe, straight to your own account.
  • Paying at the desk works tooMark the month as paid with one tap. If a week passes without payment, the membership pauses itself.

Membership questions

What studio owners ask about memberships

How do I sell memberships for my yoga or Pilates studio with Avana?

In your Avana dashboard you create a membership, either unlimited or with a set number of classes a month, and choose the price. Members sign up on your studio page and pay the first month straight away. After that their card is charged every month and they book their own classes.

How are memberships paid each month in Avana?

Memberships are charged to the member's card every month through Stripe, and the money goes to your own bank account. Members can sign up with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. You pay Avana no commission on any membership.

What happens if a member's monthly payment fails?

Avana marks the membership as overdue and emails the member a new payment link. Until the payment goes through, they can't book new classes with that membership. You'll see on the member's card in your dashboard that the payment failed.

Can members cancel their own membership?

Yes, members cancel their membership themselves in their own account, month by month. Any classes in the month they've already paid for can still be booked until that month ends.

Do unused classes on a membership carry over to the next month?

No, on a membership with a set number of classes, those classes are valid until the end of the month. A fresh set arrives with every new month. An unlimited membership has no count, so the question doesn't come up there.

Can a member pause their membership?

Yes, you can pause a member's membership for one, two or three months, for example during a long holiday or after an injury. The pause starts when the month they've paid for ends, nothing is charged while it lasts, and the membership carries on by itself afterwards.

Do members have to pay for a membership online?

No, a membership can be charged to the member's card automatically, but you can also let them pay at your desk. You then mark each month as paid with one tap, and if a week goes by without payment, the membership pauses itself. For automatic monthly charges you connect your bank account through Stripe.

More about memberships

Looking for a simple way to sell studio memberships?

Avana is studio membership software that sells your memberships online and charges each member's card every month. A studio runs on its regulars. Someone who comes every Tuesday doesn't want to pay again each time, and you don't want to spend the first week of every month working out who still owes you. A membership settles it for both of you: sign up once, and it keeps going.

Unlimited or a set number of classes?

Unlimited is easy to explain and feels generous, which suits members who come three or four times a week. A set number, such as eight classes a month, suits members with a steady rhythm and keeps your class sizes predictable. Many studios offer both, plus a class pack for people whose weeks vary.

Membership or class pack?

With a class pack, a member pays upfront for a number of classes. A membership is paid again each month. For you, the membership is the calmer option, because you know at the start of the month what will arrive. A pack is a friendly first step for newcomers who aren't ready to commit.

What happens when a card is declined

Cards expire, get replaced or hit their limit, so a failed monthly charge is normal now and then. What matters is that it gets followed up quickly and without an awkward conversation at the front desk. In Avana the member gets a new payment link by email, and the membership can't be used for new bookings until it's settled.

What Avana does for you

Avana sells your memberships online, charges them every month and lets members book their classes on your online class schedule. Read how card payments and invoices work on the page about online payments, or check what Avana costs further down this page.
