Cookie policy
We use cookies and similar technologies on the Avana website. This page explains which ones, what for, how long your choice lasts and how to change it.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies, such as pixels, third-party scripts and your browser's local storage. When we say "cookies" on this page, we mean all of these.
2. Your choice comes first
On your first visit we ask whether we may use cookies. You can choose Accept, Essential only, or pick per category with Choose for myself. Choosing Essential only is as easy as accepting.
We only set cookies for statistics and advertising after you consent. Until you choose, or if you choose Essential only, Microsoft Clarity and the Meta Pixel do not load. Google Analytics and Google Ads use Google Consent Mode (version 2), set to "denied" by default: without your consent they set and read no cookies on your device, and Google only receives anonymous signals without a cookie or an identifier that recognises you, for example that a page was viewed. Only with your consent do Google Analytics and Google Ads use cookies.
3. The cookies we use
Strictly necessary (always on). Needed to make the website and booking pages work, so we do not ask for consent.
- Signing in to Avana, your session and its security.
- Your language choice (
avana_lang). - Your cookie choice itself (
av_consent, in your browser's local storage, 6 months).
If you reach a booking page through the "Book" button in Google Search or Google Maps, we keep a cookie called _rwgToken for 30 days. It holds a code that Google adds to the link. If you book in that time, we send the code back to Google so Google knows the button led to a booking. No name, email address or other details of yours go with it. If you do not come from Google, this cookie is not set.
Statistics (only with consent). To understand how the site is used and improve it.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd): pages visited and how you arrived. Cookies
_gaand_ga_*, up to 2 years. - Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd): how visitors click and scroll, only on our marketing pages, never in the app or on booking and payment pages. Cookies
_clck(1 year) and_clsk(1 day). - PostHog (PostHog Inc., servers in the EU, through our own domain): which steps you take on the site and when signing up. With consent, PostHog stores a cookie and local storage (
ph_*_posthog, up to 1 year) and may record sessions, with anything you type hidden. Without consent we only measure anonymously with PostHog, without storing anything on your device and without recordings.
Advertising (only with consent). To measure which of our ads work, for example whether someone signs up after seeing one.
- Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd): measures visits and sign-ups from ads on Facebook and Instagram. Cookies
_fbpand_fbc, up to 3 months. - Google Ads through Google Tag Manager (Google Ireland Ltd): measures sign-ups and purchases from Google ads. Cookies such as
_gcl_au, up to 3 months.
Our mobile app uses no third-party tracking cookies, and these services do not load in it.
4. How long your choice lasts and how to change it
We remember your choice for 6 months, with the date you made it, and then ask again. Your choice is stored in your own browser, so we ask again on another device or browser.
You can change your choice or withdraw consent at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, or here: .
If you withdraw consent, the services concerned stop loading and we remove their cookies on our own domain, as far as your browser allows. Cookies a service set on its own domain can be removed in your browser settings. Withdrawing does not affect what was measured before.
5. Managing cookies in your browser
You can also manage or delete cookies in your browser settings, and set your browser to refuse them. Some parts of the website may then not work properly. Your browser's help pages explain how.
6. Data outside the UK and EEA
Google, Meta and Microsoft may also process data outside the UK and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. They state that they use appropriate safeguards for this, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. Their own privacy policies explain how they handle data.
7. Changes and contact
We update this policy when our website or the technologies we use change. The latest version is always on this page. Questions? Email support-nl@getavana.com, and see our privacy policy.
