Cancelling an online course
If you live in the UK and bought an online course through Avana Academy, you can usually cancel within 14 days. This page explains when that right applies, when it ends and how to use it.
1. Who you bought from
A course on Avana Academy is sold by the salon or professional who made it. Your contract is with them, and they are responsible for the course and for honouring your right to cancel. Avana provides the course platform and the checkout, and sends your request to the seller.
2. Your 14-day right to cancel
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you can cancel an online course purchase without giving a reason within 14 days. The 14 days start the day after you bought the course. Your purchase email explains the cancellation period and how to use it.
3. When the right to cancel ends early
An online course is digital content. If you start watching it within the 14 days, you lose the right to cancel, but only if all of these happened:
- you asked at checkout to get access straight away;
- you confirmed you understood that you would lose your right to cancel once you start;
- you received a confirmation of this by email.
If one of these is missing, you keep your right to cancel for the full 14 days, and you do not pay for what you already watched.
Some courses include a practical day with the seller. That part is a service. If you cancel after the practical day has taken place at your request, the seller may keep a fair amount for what was provided. The seller decides this and tells you.
4. How to cancel
Use one of these:
- the cancellation link in the email you received after paying; or
- the cancellation button on the course page, with the name and email address you used to pay; or
- any other clear statement to the seller, for example by email, or by emailing us at support-nl@getavana.com and we pass it on.
It is enough to send your request before the 14 days end. When you cancel online, you get an email straight away confirming what you sent and when.
5. Your refund
The seller refunds the course price within 14 days of your cancellation, to the payment method you used, at no extra cost to you. If you had not started the course yet, Avana arranges the refund automatically. If you had started, the seller first checks whether your right to cancel still applied.
The service fee you paid to Avana for the online purchase is shown separately at checkout and is not part of the course price. It is not refunded.
6. Model cancellation form
You do not have to use this form, but you can copy it into an email to the seller:
To [name of the seller]: I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the following online course: [course name], bought on [date]. Name: [your name]. Email address used to pay: [email]. Date: [today's date].
7. Your other rights
This right to cancel comes on top of your other rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, such as digital content that is of satisfactory quality and as described. Questions about a course go to the seller. Questions about how Avana works go to support-nl@getavana.com.
