Abandoned booking emails that bring clients back

Avana's abandoned booking email automatically contacts clients who entered their details on your booking page but never confirmed, with a link straight back to their booking. It's in every Avana plan, so appointments you'd have lost can still land in your calendar.

How the email works

From a half-finished booking to an appointment

Avana notices when a booking stops after the details step and emails the client a little later, unless they finished booking in the meantime.

The moment

The client enters their name and email, then stops

A phone call, their bus stop, a child shouting. The service is chosen and the details are in, but nobody taps confirm.

  • As soon as name and email are entered
  • On your own booking page
  • Without you tracking who stopped
The email

Avana sends a short email with a link back

Shortly afterwards the client gets a friendly email with your salon name and the service they chose. One tap takes them back to the booking.

  • No email if the booking went through after all
  • The link goes to your own booking page
  • With the first name they entered
Switching it on

We switch the email on for you

The email is off by default, so you decide whether your clients get it. Send us a message and we'll switch it on for your salon.

  • In every plan, with no cost per email
  • Switching it off works the same way
  • Runs alongside your confirmation and reminder
Why it pays off

A half-finished booking isn't a lost client

Most people who stop halfway through an online booking still want the appointment; something simply interrupted them. A single email from Avana shortly afterwards brings many of them back.

People who fill in details really meant it

Nobody picks a service and enters their name and email for fun. A nudge is often all that's missing.

Nothing for you to track

You don't see who stopped halfway, and you don't need to. Avana sends the email, and anyone who comes back is simply in your calendar.

No annoying emails

If the client finished the booking anyway, no follow-up goes out. They just get the normal confirmation.

What's in it

Short and personal

Avana's follow-up email holds the client's first name, your salon name, the chosen service and a button back to their booking.

The client's first nameAs they entered it while booking.
Your salon's nameSo they know straight away which appointment it's about.
The chosen serviceThe service the client had picked.
A link backTo the page where they stopped, or otherwise to your booking page.

The email only goes if the client entered their own name and email address, and only for booking a service.

With your booking page

An offer that finishes what it started

Share a code in your Instagram bio and more people land on your booking page. Anyone who stops halfway gets the email with a link back.

Follow-up emailReminders

After that, it's like any other appointment

When the client finishes booking, the normal confirmation follows, and before the appointment a reminder with your address and cancellation rules.

A safety net for the link in your bio

Anyone who reaches your booking page through your Instagram bio, a message or the QR code at your desk and stops halfway gets the email too.

Questions

The abandoned booking email, explained

What is Avana's abandoned booking email?

Avana's abandoned booking email is an email to a client who chose a service on your booking page and entered their name and email address but didn't tap confirm. Shortly afterwards Avana sends a friendly email with your salon name, the chosen service and a link back, so they can finish the booking.

How do I turn on abandoned booking emails for my salon?

The Avana team switches the abandoned booking email on for your salon when you send us a message. It's off by default, so you decide whether your clients get it, and switching it off works the same way.

When does Avana send the abandoned booking email?

Avana sends it shortly after the client stopped booking. Before sending, Avana checks whether the booking went through in the meantime; if it did, nothing goes out and the client only gets the normal confirmation.

What if the client didn't enter an email address?

Without an email address, Avana can't send the abandoned booking email. It only works if the client had already entered their name and email address before they stopped.

Does the abandoned booking email work for product orders?

No, Avana's abandoned booking email only covers services. It goes out when someone stops while booking a service on your booking page. It isn't sent for an order in your shop or a booking in the widget on your own website.

What does an abandoned booking email from Avana contain?

It contains the client's first name, your salon's name, the service they chose and a link back to the page where they stopped, or otherwise to your booking page. The time they picked isn't included, because it may have gone in the meantime.

Does the abandoned booking email cost extra?

No, the abandoned booking email costs nothing extra. It's in every plan, including Avana Business at $20.99 a month, with no cost per email. A booking recovered this way earns you the full price, because Avana takes 0% commission.

Is there a service fee, and who pays it?

When a client pays online, a small service fee is part of the price they see from the very first screen: 3% of the booking, at least $1.99 and at most $2.79. You pay nothing on your takings, because Avana charges no commission. That small amount from the client is what lets us pay you out in full, so the whole treatment price stays with you.

The short answer

How do you recover an abandoned booking?

Avana has an email that brings back abandoned salon bookings. If a client picks a service on your booking page, enters their name and email address and doesn't tap confirm, Avana sends a friendly email shortly afterwards with their first name, your salon name, the chosen service and a link back to the booking. If they finished the booking anyway, no email goes out. The abandoned booking email is off by default and the Avana team switches it on for your salon when you ask. It's in every plan, with no cost per email. For a solo salon, Avana Business costs $20.99 a month, tax included, which is $0.69 a day.

Abandoned bookings

Recovering bookings that were nearly done

Not everyone who starts booking finishes. Someone chooses a service, fills in their details and then gets a phone call or reaches their stop. Without a nudge that booking is gone, and you never even knew it nearly happened. Online shops have sent abandoned cart emails for years, and Avana does the same for your booking page: anyone who entered their name and email but didn't confirm gets a short email with a link back.

The email is one of the ways Avana keeps chairs full, and it connects with the rest. A discount code in your Instagram bio brings people to your page, the follow-up email catches anyone who stops halfway, and those who book pay a deposit if you ask for one and get a reminder before the appointment. What to do if someone still doesn't come is covered under no-show protection.

The email is off by default, so you decide whether clients get it. If you'd like it on, send us a message and the Avana team will switch it on for your salon, in every plan and with no cost per email. It works for bookings on your own booking page, including when the client came through your bio, a message or the QR code at your desk. The pricing page sets out what each plan covers.

Why do clients abandon an online booking?

Usually because something gets in the way. Salons are often booked between other things: on a lunch break, on the train, on the sofa with a child asking for something. Someone who has chosen a service and entered their details had really already decided. Other reasons are doubt about the time, or wanting to check a partner's calendar first.

You prevent some drop-off with a short booking page: few steps, prices and cancellation rules visible, which is how Avana's booking page works. For those who still stop, there's the follow-up email, sent to anyone who already entered their name and email, with a link back so they don't have to find the service and time again.

What should an abandoned booking email say?

As little as possible: who you are, what the client was booking and a button to carry on. No sales pitch and no discount you weren't planning to give. A friendly tone works better than an urgent one, because the client already wanted to come.

Avana's email sticks to that. It has the client's first name, your salon name, the service they chose and a link back to where they stopped, or otherwise to your booking page. The time they picked isn't in it; if it's been taken in the meantime, they simply choose another.

Is an abandoned booking email allowed?

An email about a booking someone was making themselves is different from a marketing email. The client entered their email address to make an appointment, and the email is about exactly that appointment. If you're unsure about your own situation, check with someone who knows the privacy rules where you are, because this isn't legal advice.

In Avana the email only goes to people who entered their own name and email on your booking page, and only about that one booking. If they finished it after all, nothing goes out. The email is off by default and the Avana team only switches it on when you ask, so you decide, and you can have it switched off again if it doesn't suit your salon.
